BDE 3.18.0 Highlights

New Component: bdlcc_singleconsumerqueue

The new component, bdlcc_singleconsumerqueue, defines a class template for a thread-aware container designed to have no more than one thread at a time accessing the consumer side (or the behavior is undefined), and an arbitrary number of concurrent producer threads. See bdlcc_singleconsumerqueue.

bdlt::Datetime and Related Classes Now Have “Fluent” add* Methods

The bdlt::Datetime class has a suite of methods for changing the value of an object. For example, given an arbitrary datetime value:

const bdlt::Datetime dt0(2018, 12, 11, 14, 30);

One can change the value using the add* methods, each representing a change in a different unit of time:

bdlt::Datetime dt1(dt0);

dt1.addHours(1);
dt1.addMinutes(-65);
dt1.addSeconds(10);
dt1.addDays(2);

assert(bdlt::Datetime(2018, 12, 13, 14, 25, 10) == dt1);

Previously, each of the add* methods returned void; now, each returns a non-const reference to the object. Now, the above change can be done in a single “fluent” expression instead of four:

bdlt::Datetime dt2(dt0);

dt2.addHours(1).addMinutes(-65).addSeconds(10).addDays(2);

assert(dt1 == dt2);

This change of return value is source compatible except where one is defining a pointer type to any of these changed methods.

Analogous changes have been made to the add* methods of bdlt::DatetimeInterval and bsls::TimeInterval.
